Job Summary 
The Cemetery Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cemetery landscape in an efficient and high-quality manner so as to ensure our visitors have a pleasant, safe and quintessential experience. Duties include performing landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the Cemetery grounds.

Essential Functions
  • Manage the gardens and grounds and ensure they are beautifully presented and well-kept.
  • Locate grave site according to section, lot and block numbers and marks area to be excavated.
  • Operate heavy equipment or by hand as appropriate to dig graves and assist at funerals as required.
  • Assist with the placement of outer burial containers.
  • Assist with burials by positioning the casket-lowering device on graves, covering dirt piles, sodding with artificial grass carpet, erecting the canopy and arranging folding chairs to prepare site for burial service.
  • Assist with opening and closing of mausoleum niches and crypts.
Maintain maintenance of the Cemetery grounds; this including planting, pruning, weeding, litter picking, cleaning, mowing lawns, raking leaves, prepare soil and plant flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs, and other grounds responsibilities as requested.
  • Assist with the orderly conduct of visitors at the Cemetery.
  • Complete snow removal tasks such as salting the grounds, shoveling sidewalks, steps, and doorways as needed during winter months.
  • Operate snowblower or snowplow to clear roads, driveways, and parking lots as needed.
  • Repair graves that have settled,
  • Adhere to all workplace safety practices.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and delegate as needed.
  • Strong empathy skills for customers who are dealing with the grieving process.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, professional appearance, and courteous disposition.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and with other team members.
  • Ability to handle and adapt to stressful situations with professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
  • Ability to treat others with respect and dignity.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites or other required software programs.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines while working with equipment.
  • Understands the sensitivity of the cemetery environment.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with maintenance and groundskeeping required.

  • Frequently required to periods sitting at a desk and working on a personal computer for up to 10 hours a day.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours a day.
  • Frequently required to hear on phone and video calls.
  • Frequently required to use hand and power tools and large machinery.
  • Frequently required to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move upwards of 50 pounds up.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move upwards of 100 pounds up.

Travel Requirements
No travel required.

Work Environment
  • Work environment is primarily outdoor and office setting at the Cemetery.
  • Exposure to constant temperature changes, chemicals and particles, loud noises and vibrations, climate changes, extreme weather such as lighting, high winds, snowstorms, etc.

Pay Range: $19.00 - $24.00
Hourly Rate. Minimum of 40 hours per week.
